About the incident:
It was a stormy afternoon; odd for Portland, but true. Lightning
flashed as I washed a glass, splitting it in two; my finger never had
a chance. I bled profusely for five hours, waiting patiently to get
fixed as nurses took bets on the number of stitches it would take.
"eight." one guessed.
A resident watched the head nurse tie me up. They planned an outing to
practice sutures.
"you practice sutures on each other?" I asked.
